I checked my list of subscribers today, not something I do very often. I was surprised that I had to scroll a bit to see them all! I have been writing on this blog for a few years under the Bar To Home umbrella, and when I started, the only reader I had was my wife. I am appreciative of all of you that take the time to read what I have to say (and you too babe). Time is, of course, the most valuable and limited resource we have available, so again, thank you.
I picked this year to make some significant changes. For one, I gave up a smartphone. Yeah, really. I am using a phone I helped kickstart a few years ago made by a company called Light. It can make calls and receive texts. No photos. No browser. No social. No snake! No nothing! Well, there is a calculator, but once you have a number pad, you are pretty much halfway there. I wouldn't consider it a dumb phone but one that prefers to be left alone and quiet.
Another change I have been working on is the slow migration away from Google. I have nothing against them on a personal level, but I also have nothing all that positive either on any other level. It was always a one-sided relationship. These days I don't mind paying for privacy, and there are plenty of other services that don't track and sell your searches and info like Duck Duck Go for searching and Mailbox.org for email.
As of today, I have changed the domain of this blog to my name. I have enjoyed Bar to Home but this year is about me. Bar to Home was a fun experiment as was Cocktail Doodle and Boombox Consulting, but underneath, all of those different hats is the same receding hairline-- mine. I purchased www.elukea.com a few years ago and never had the guts to publish something to a domain that had my name on it. I didn't feel good enough or established enough. It was easier to hide under different names and different ideas. No longer!
I consider Bar to Home successful and going onwards, I have more things to say that don't pertain to cocktails, spirits, and bartending. What was a blank canvas eventually turned into a paint by number, and I would rather not stay in those lines. Those of you that are only here for the drinks don't worry! There will always be a bit of that going on.
Last year I penned an entry titled I have no business writing about the service industry anymore. The same distancing I needed then, I need now with my own "brand." I don't want to be Bar to Home; I want to be me! I liked making and drinking cocktails long before I was behind the bar, and I will continue to create and drink them as time goes on. Hopefully, my writing can be a useful and informative utilization of your time with my forthcoming posts.
What I am trying to say is that I am interested in much more than just cocktails, and I will soon start to add some of those other interests to this outlet...as myself and under my name.
The last change is that I would like to hear from you. When I look through my list of subscribers, I only personally know a handful of you. How did you find me? Why did you subscribe? What are you looking for?
Thanks again for reading and being supportive.
